Going plastic free

steve-johnson-625117-unsplashThe plastic free revolution is gathering pace. (Thank you, Sir David. What a legacy.) More and more of my patients are voicing their concerns about plastic waste. And there’s an interesting correlation between dispensing with bottles made of the stuff, and using more natural products, (which sits so happily alongside the homeopathic way). Why not reduce the risk of plastics leaching into your food and the products you’re smothering your body in?

You’ll be helping the environment and your own health at the same time – often there’s a natural alternative that’s better for you and better for the environment too.

But if you don’t know where to start, what are some of those alternatives? What can you do beyond ditching those plastic water bottles in favour of metal alternatives, and buying your milk in glass bottles (the old fashioned way – remember those days?)

How about making your own hair gel from linseeds? No more chemicals. Or switching to natural deodorant paste in cute metal tins? You don’t have to smell to stop suppressing your body’s natural sweat. And it’s so easy to switch from a plastic toothbrush to a bamboo one. There are even funky shampoo bars these days (which look like soap) which stop stripping your scalp of its natural oils, and save you washing your hair so often, because it stays cleaner longer. Natural toothpaste is available in glass jars, or you can make your own. Witch hazel is a great toner, and coconut oil a great moisturiser, both available in glass jars. And why not swap your shower gel for pure olive oil soap and do your skin a favour?

If you’re new to all this though, it can be daunting. So get in touch if you don’t know where to start. It’s not homeopathy, but it’s part of that natural lifestyle – so do yourself and the planet a favour.

Warm wishes,

Lucy
