So here it is…

“So here it is, Merry Christmas, everybody’s having fun.”

And mince pies.

And that extra helping of turkey.

Oh, and someone has to eat up that last crispy roast potato – it wouldn’t be the same reheated.  Which just leaves room for Christmas pud (with lashings of thick double cream and of course the obligatory brandy butter).  Clearly all the above is tastier washed down with another glass of champagne.  Or even a saucy little dessert wine.

Now who put that gooey cheese and bottle of port there?

ChristmasHmm… Rather a shallow way to open a December blog when the month is about so much more than the extra pounds which will inevitably be put on during the festivities.

Jam-packed full of festivals and saints’ days as well as the Mass of Christ, you can take your pick from celebrations such as Bodhi Day (8th), Chanuka (16th-24th), Pancha Ganapati (21st – 25th), Yule, Yanda (21st) and Saturnalia (17th-23rd).

Or various saints’ days: Nicholas on 6th, Lucia on 13th, Stephen on 26th, John the Evangelist on 27th and Sylvester on 31st.

And let’s not forget Hogmanay (31st).

With the success of Band Aid’s fourth iteration of “Do they know it’s Christmas?” this year, we’re also reminded the month appeals well to our humanitarian nature too.

But Buddhist, Hindu, Pagan or Christian, Jew, Scot, humanitarian or heathen, (with politically correct apologies to all sects, religions and individuals not aforementioned), humans of varying hues, creeds and persuasions have been overindulging since time immemorial.  (Whether vegan, vegetarian or omnivore.)

And homeopathy has been helping with the inevitable after-effects since the ancient Roman Saturnalian festivals of Hippocrates’ days.  (A quick internet search will illuminate the…er…nature and degree of the Romans’ overindulgence!)

So in the (of course unlikely) event you overdo it on the Stollen or sherry this December, do remember that Nux Vomica is the top homeopathic remedy for hangovers, overindulgence in rich food and drink, and coffee, tobacco and narcotic abuse.

Wishing you a happy – rather than too merry – Christmas.

Warmest Yuletide wishes,

Lucy
